The little stories of my life

Don’t Look Up & Chasing Dreams

Week three brought a new challenge, trying to navigate my photo journal while also suffering from illness. If you read last weeks post you’ll know I came down with a case of tonsillitis and on the worst days of it I decided to bend the rules of my challenge and allow myself to use images taken on a different day as long as I edit them on the day they are being used for this project. The whole point of this challenge is to get back into the habit of taking photos and being creative, and as I see it editing is still part of the creative process.

Through The Light & Dark – 15/01/2026

Today, after waking up with a fever and struggling to think of anything that I could photograph around my home I went with editing a photo of Jax I took last year. Whilst, I’m happy with the colours of Jax I feel the grass is a touch too green or dark and is something I’d edit differently next time. Taken using my Canon 250D and 18-55mm lens.

Amongst The Quiet – 16/01/2026

Another day of fever, another day of editing an old photo taken last year. This time of some Rosa Cantabrigiensis blooming. I was aiming for a soft, dreamy and vintage style edit with this one to make the flowers the main focus and I really like how it turned out. Shot using my Canon 250D and 50mm lens.

In The Darkness – 17/01/2026

Finally starting to feel better but the rain stopping me from getting out and about with my camera I had to find something around the house as my subject. I noticed the rain drops on a tree that hangs over into my garden and tried to capture the dark, gloomy and rainy type of day it was. It is probably a touch too dark but I do really enjoy this image and the vibe it gives off. Taken using my Canon 250D and 55-250mm lens.

Chasing Dreams – 18/01/2026

Another one of Jax, this time in a small home studio I set up specifically for this shoot. For a while now I’ve been contemplating getting into Pet photography. This was the first step of testing if I could make my dream a reality. I need to figure out how to get electricity in the shed where I set this up as it is very dark in there but for a dog with zero patience when it comes to treats I’m very proud of this shot. Taken using my Canon 250D and 18-55mm lens.

Don’t Look Up – 19/01/2026

I had a very bad mental health day today so went back into the archives and stumbled across this image taken last year of some metal awning that overhangs Newark Police Station. It was a pretty grey day when I took the photo so putting it into black and white made sense especially with the contrast between the different edges of the metal. Taken with my Canon 250D and 50mm lens.

Mom, put the camera down – 20/01/2026

I actually wasn’t planning on another Jax photo this week but while I was out in the garden seeing what other shots I could get, I grabbed this one. The look of disgust on his face is what gets me the most. It just screams mom put the camera down and give me some attention or a treat, which is just Jax down to a T. Captured on my Instax Mini Evo and printed on monochrome film.

As The Days Change – 21/01/2026

When I woke up this morning I noticed my neighbours blossom tree had started blooming. Blossom trees remind me that spring is finally on it’s way and after a few grey, rainy weeks this sight was definitely welcome. Similar to Amongst The Quiet earlier in the week I edited this with a soft and slightly dreamy mood in mind. Taken using my Canon 250D and 55-250mm lens.

While this week didn’t start out the way I had planned this challenge to go, it has allowed me to give myself some breathing space for when life gets a little tough or something crops up unexpectedly. As the week went on and got a bit better it allowed me to take a step towards starting a dream, that I plan to keep working towards.
