I’ve finally managed a full week of daily photos again and the confidence it’s brought me has been something I wasn’t expecting to experience but it’s been so nice to have.
After taking some time away from things to figure out how I want my life to look and also what direction I want to take my career in, this week has been mainly photos with Jax. I’ll write a separate post about this more but realising that Pet Photography is what I most enjoy, this is where my main focus has been this week.
Plotting Something – 12/03/2026

The Chihuahua side eye is a daily experience in my house, Jax is usually able to find something to disapprove of me for. However, he’s usually doing it in the most difficult of places for me to get a photo of it, today was the day that changed. He wasn’t happy with me trying to trim the fur on his paws and he certainly let me know about it with this look. Unexpectedly this photo also got chosen for flickr’s explore page. Taken using my Instax Mini Evo in monochrome.
Little Bit Of Sass – 13/03/2026

Long Tailed Tits are one of the cutest birds around, in my opinion, and I love watching a flock of them fluttering around a tree. Thankfully when I saw this little one I had my camera on me to document the cuteness. Captured with my Canon 250D and 100-400mm lens.
The Goodest Boy – 14/03/2026

Today was a studio day to test out the space after finally being able to remove a wooden divide that was making the usable space much smaller that it could be. Jax again being my trusty model knew what he needed to do to get the treats I’d promised him. Taken using my Canon 250D and 10-18mm lens.
A little bit of sunshine – 15/03/2026

After going out for a walk with my camera with the intention of shooting some local wildlife and then not liking any of the photos I took so I came home and headed to the studio to test the new yellow backdrop out. I have to admit this backdrop is my least favourite to work with and I really struggled with getting the lighting right with it too so this is one I’ll have to practise some more with but how can anyone resist Jax?! Taken with my Canon 250D and 10-18mm lens.
Can I has a treat please? – 16/03/2026

Back in the studio with Jax again today to practise before I take some photos of a friends dog in a few to expand my portfolio and figure out pricing before I can start offering out shoots professionally. This isn’t the best photo technically as his eyes are out of focus but I always love it when I manage to catch Jax’s tongue out while he waits patiently for his treat. Taken using my Canon 250D and 18-55mm lens
Get My good side – 17/03/2026

With the weather finally picking up I spent a lovely afternoon sat in the garden with my camera watching the birds fly around and using the feeders. All afternoon I’d been thinking that I’d not seen a robin in the garden for a few days then this one flew on to a branch and turned to pose for me and flew off very quickly after I got took a few photos. Captured using my Canon 250D and 100-400mm lens.
There’s a world that was meant for our eyes to see – 18/03/2026

I’ve had another day today where every photo I took with my main camera just wasn’t to my liking. Sometimes that’s just how it goes but it can be frustrating at times. So I thought of the phrase ‘chase the light’ I like to remind myself of when my photography isn’t going to plan. Thinking of this, I grabbed my Instax, went back to basics and started looking for interesting light that I could capture and got this out my bedroom window. Taken using my Instax Mini Evo.
This week has been the first full week of daily photos for over a month and while it’s been frustrating it has felt so good being behind my camera again. I will try to keep dogs to a minimum going forwards, however, I make no promises as I’m trying to set up a pet photography business. As I said at the start I’ll do another post about this development in the next few days.
